Chancellor Plans to Cut Paperwork to Save Business £800m
The UK government announced paperwork cuts it says will save businesses about £800 million. Chancellor John Healey unveiled them ahead of next week's Budget.
£290 million a year saved by streamlining company reporting, per the Treasury.
£116 million expected from simplifying home buying and selling.
£105 million saved by easing duplicate reporting for asset managers.
£155 million from extending paused import tariffs on 250-plus products.
Why it matters: Small firms will keep minimal Companies House filings instead of full profit and loss reports from April 2028. Ministers estimate the wider admin cuts will save employers 280 million hours a year.
Small firms, especially in construction, should find public contracts easier to bid for.
The Budget arrives with borrowing at £24.5 billion last month and limited fiscal room.
