Fastrack · Oregon Teacher Who Survived School Shooting Says She Pretended to Be Dead

Becky Drury, a teacher wounded in last week's attack on a special education classroom in Bend, Oregon, says she never had a chance to shelter children. She said she was shot at close range while trying to shut the classroom door.

3 children, ages 5, 8 and 11, and a teacher were killed.
16-year-old former student Griffin J. John II forced through locked doors with a shotgun.
Drury's left hand was nearly severed; her right arm was also struck.
A bystander father fatally shot the gunman as another teacher wrestled him.

Why it matters: Drury said she issued the statement to correct reports that she threw herself over a student. "I was shot before I had any chance to act," she said.

Police confirmed the pump-action shotgun was legally purchased.
Law enforcement sources told AP and NBC News the shooter's mother bought it.
