Macron Rejects Interior Minister's Resignation Offer After Riots
Macron declined Interior Minister Laurent Nuñez's resignation Monday after two nights of rioting and looting in French cities. His office cited the need for continued command of law enforcement.
At least 2,400 people were arrested nationwide.
Hundreds of businesses were looted, Nuñez said.
Fire destroyed the roof of Limoges' 19th-century City Hall.
Marseille's prefect banned public gatherings Monday between noon and 8 p.m.
Why it matters: The violence began Saturday during nationwide protests over rising living costs and school conditions. It continued Sunday night in Paris, Lyon, Marseille and elsewhere.
Nuñez admitted authorities "lost control" in some major cities Saturday.
Authorities said groups of hundreds targeted city halls and other public offices.
