Trump Expected to Award Science Medal to Elon Musk.

President Trump will award the nation's highest science and technology honors to Elon Musk and other tech executives at a White House summit Thursday. It is the first time Trump has presented either medal across his two administrations.

• 4 recipients — Musk, Sergey Brin, Jensen Huang, Lisa Su — will receive the National Medal of Science.
• 2 recipients — Michael Dell and Satya Nadella — will receive the National Medal of Technology and Innovation.
• Musk has also returned to an advisory role, co-leading the Pentagon's Project Meridian.
• Trump's uncle, John G. Trump, received the National Medal of Science posthumously from President Reagan.

Why it matters: The ceremony comes after Musk publicly split with Trump last year, calling Trump's tax-and-spending bill a 'disgusting abomination.' Trump responded by threatening Musk's government contracts.

• The two have since reconciled; Musk appeared alongside Trump at a technology leader lunch and was present during Chinese President Xi Jinping's visit.

What’s next: The summit will focus on how artificial intelligence and private investment can accelerate scientific progress.

• Musk's expanded advisory role centers on the future of U.S. military technology through Project Meridian.
• Whether Musk's return to a formal advisory role affects his company's government contracts going forward.
• What policy or research commitments, if any, will emerge from the Science: A New Golden Age Summit.
