Today, Principal Deputy National Security Advisor Jon Finer welcomed to the White House representatives of the three 2022 Nobel Peace Prize laureates— Kanstantsin Staradubets for the Belarusian political prisoner and activist Ales Bialiatski, Aleksandr Cherkasov for the Russian human rights organization Memorial Human Rights Center, and Oleksandra Matviichuk for the Ukrainian nonprofit the Center for Civil Liberties. The representatives discussed with Mr. Finer the need for a just and sustainable peace in Ukraine, paired with democratic reforms and accountability for human rights abuses in the region. Mr. Finer applauded their invaluable contributions in their respective countries and highlighted that their joint award demonstrates the importance of defending human rights and fundamental freedoms in all contexts.
