Today, that partnership ended where it began – in Plains, Georgia.“Rosalynn Smith met Jimmy Carter before she could walk, moved frequently as a young Navy spouse, and embraced the even more dizzying pace of life in the political limelight with grace and resolve. From the White House, she reshaped the nation’s image of a modern First Lady, taking on policy and diplomatic missions as an equal partner.“Rosalynn Carter used her role to help build 'a more caring society' – from advocating refugee relief to combating age discrimination. But like her husband, the former First Lady’s humble public service continued in earnest for decades after leaving the White House. Her tireless effort to promote mental health research and expand treatments for those on the margins of society leaves an especially enduring legacy of care.“Today, as our nation gives thanks for the life of Rosalynn Carter, our thoughts and prayers are with her husband President Carter, their children Jack, Chip, Jeff, and Amy, their grandchildren and great-grandchildren, and the millions of Americans whose lives were touched by her service.”###Related Issues: TributesPrintEmailTweetPreviousTHE NEWSROOMSENATE RESOURCESABOUT LEADER McCONNELLFacebookTwitterInstagram
