It’s important for us to be able to continue to push back in the Congress, in the courts and throughout communities all across the country. We understand that people are hurting. People are scared. People are frightened by what they’re seeing. Están continuando perdiendo en los tribunales.[LEADER JEFFRIES: Well, first of all, we are committed to making life more affordable for the Latino community all across the country and for every community. America right now is too expensive. Housing costs are too high. Grocery costs are too high. Insurance costs are too high. Child care costs are too high. And President Trump promised that he would lower the high cost of living in America, but costs aren’t going down. They’re going up. That promise has been broken. We will hold the President accountable for that. At the same period of time, when executive orders have been issued that we believe are unconstitutional or unlawful, we will continue to push back in court. Donald Trump and the administration are not winning in court. They continue to lose in court.] SATCHA PRETTO: Precisamente hablemos sobre el tema migratorio. Algunas de estas acciones ejecutivas ya sean de alguna forma o otra, se han visto bloqueadas en las Cortes. Sabemos que ha firmado un sinnúmero de órdenes ejecutivas. Algunas tienen que ver, por supuesto, con la naturaleza de que no se le brinde una ciudadanía directa a los hijos de personas extranjeras en este país. Esa se ha visto bloqueada en las cortes. At the same time, we of course, have to secure the border to make sure that we are keeping every community safe. That is going to require Democrats and Republicans to partner together to defend lawful and law-abiding communities, and we plan to continue to do just that. We’re hopeful that the other side of the aisle will step up as well.]SATCHA PRETTO: ¿Pero cómo se haría? And it’s my expectation that Democrats in the House and in the Senate will be able to push this legislation forward. And all we need is a handful of Republicans to join us to protect this information. At the same time, we believe that the Department of Homeland Security’s request for data is likely unlawful. And it’s our expectation that that executive action, just like many others, will continue to be blocked in court.]SATCHA PRETTO: Y Congresista Jeffries, antes de despedirnos, ¿como entonces se va a lograr que cuenten con ese apoyo por parte de Republicanos cuando hemos visto lo contrario, como por ejemplo en la Ley y el Acta Laken Riley, vimos más bien casi unos 42 Demócratas que votaron a favor de los Republicanos?LÍDER JEFFRIES: Bueno, todos los Republicanos respaldaron a la Ley Laken Riley. La mayoría de los Demócratas estaban en contra de ellos. Yo fui uno de ellos. The overwhelming majority of Democrats opposed it, myself included. We do recognize that our immigration system, for far too long, has been broken. We need to create legal pathways toward citizenship. We’re committed to doing that. In the past, under the Biden administration, we passed the Dream and Promise Act, we passed the Farmworker Modernization Act, but unfortunately, Republicans blocked it. We have to continue to make our case, potentially get to a place where we can get enlightened legislation over the finish line, protect law-abiding immigrant communities here in Florida and across the country.]SATCHA PRETTO: Congresista Hakeem Jeffries, Demócrata por Nueva York y Líder de la Minoría en la Cámara Baja.
