Like many Americans, she called 911 for help when she feared for her safety. Instead of upholding his duty to protect and serve, a responding officer fatally shot Sonya in what appears to be the excessive use of force by someone with a very checkered history. I am thankful for the leadership of the Department of Justice and local prosecutors for their decisive actions to hold the officer accountable. No one is above the law.
