Hurricane Trudy Batters Western Mexico With Heavy Rain
Hurricane Trudy kept its strength Saturday while heading toward Mexico's western coast. Forecasters said it could strengthen before weakening Sunday.
150 km/h (90mph) maximum sustained winds, per the National Hurricane Center.
305km (190 miles) south-southeast of Manzanillo early Saturday.
10 to 20cm of rain forecast, with isolated totals near 38cm.
Hurricane warning runs from Manzanillo, Colima, to Cabo Corrientes, Jalisco.
Why it matters: The NHC warned that heavy rain could trigger life-threatening flooding and landslides, especially in steep terrain. Colima officials said saturated ground from earlier storms could worsen the damage.
Storm surge and destructive waves could flood exposed coastlines.
Swells are already creating dangerous surf and rip currents.
