Kenya Confirms Second Ebola Case, Relative of First Patient
Kenya confirmed its second Ebola case Wednesday. The patient is a 39-year-old relative of the first case who tested positive in quarantine.
128 people had contact with the first patient, officials said.
108 contacts are in quarantine in Kenya.
15 contacts were still being traced, the health ministry said.
5 contacts are outside Kenya; their governments have been notified.
Why it matters: The first patient traveled from DR Congo through Uganda to Kenya without his illness being detected. He died in Nairobi on Oct. 5, the day he tested positive.
4,000+ Ebola deaths in DR Congo this year, the second-deadliest known outbreak.
The Bundibugyo strain driving it has no approved vaccine or treatment.
