Six Flags, Other Parks Close Coasters After Georgia Death
A rider died and four others were hurt Monday on Goliath at Six Flags Over Georgia. Six Flags then closed nine similar hypercoasters at six parks.
- Carowinds in North Carolina closed Fury 325 and Thunder Striker.
- 95 mph top speed makes Fury 325 the fastest closed ride.
- Police identified the man as Hassan Jihad Ibn Kariem, 42, of Atlanta.
- Eight of the nine closed coasters were built by Bolliger & Mabillard.
Why it matters: The closures hit flagship rides at parks across the U.S. and Canada during fall operations. The cause of the Georgia incident is still unclear.
- Bolliger & Mabillard also built Goliath in Georgia.
- La Ronde in Montreal shut its own Bolliger & Mabillard coaster.
