Apple's Smart Home Hub Reportedly Called HomeView, Set to Ship November
Apple will reportedly unveil a smart home hub called HomeView at Tuesday's Welcome Home event in New York. The name and details come from Bloomberg's Mark Gurman.
- A18 chip powers the hub, built around a display and Siri voice control.
- 2 models are planned: one for countertops, one for walls.
- A19 chip goes in a new Apple TV; S10 in a new HomePod mini.
- LG is reportedly building Apple-branded locks, thermostats and doorbells.
Why it matters: HomeView would compete with Amazon's Echo Show and Google's Nest Hub. It marks Apple's biggest smart home bet after modest results from HomeKit and HomePod.
- The hub reportedly lacks App Store access and runs only select Apple apps.
- Gizmodo reports Siri AI troubles delayed the product about a year.
