Trump Rails at Norway Over Nobel Peace Prize Snub
President Trump said Friday that the Nobel Peace Prize should have gone to the US. He spoke at a rally in Syracuse, New York.
- 5 members of the Norwegian Nobel Committee chose Navi Pillay this year.
- 8 wars ended under his watch, Trump claimed, each worth its own prize.
- Trump described Pillay as a liberal who works at the United Nations.
- Trump said he had never heard of Pillay but congratulated her.
Why it matters: Trump cast the snub as a national slight. He called it "an indelible stain on the country of Norway."
- He tied the decision to his claim that other countries take advantage of the US.
- He said the UN gave him no help in ending conflicts.
