Guardians Eliminate White Sox, Advance to ALCS
The Guardians shut out the White Sox 2-0 at Progressive Field on Saturday. The win finished a comeback from an 0-2 series deficit.
- 12 strikeouts for starter Gavin Williams tied Cleveland's postseason record.
- 21 total strikeouts set a nine-inning postseason record.
- José Ramírez's two-run homer in the fourth supplied all the scoring.
- 3 hits was Chicago's total. The White Sox struck out 75 times in the series.
Why it matters: Cleveland is chasing its first World Series appearance since 2016. Only 11 of 96 teams down 0-2 in a best-of-five have come back.
- Chicago's run ends after three straight 100-loss seasons.
- Williams closed Game 4 and started Game 5, a rare postseason double.
