Eva Marie Saint, Oscar-winning actress, dies at 102.
Eva Marie Saint died Tuesday of natural causes at her home in Los Angeles. She was 102.
- 1954's 'On the Waterfront' was her feature film debut; she won Best Supporting Actress for the role.
- She gave birth to her son Darrell two days after accepting her Oscar in 1955.
- 1959's 'North by Northwest' co-starred Cary Grant; Hitchcock personally selected her costumes.
- She won an Emmy for the 1990 NBC miniseries 'People Like Us,' one of five nominations.
Why it matters: Saint's death closes a direct link to Hollywood's postwar studio era. She worked with Kazan, Hitchcock, Brando, and Grant at the height of their powers.
- Until her death, she was the oldest living Academy Award winner.
- She said she deliberately limited film roles to raise her children, telling her agent she did not want to be a superstar.
